Our London, Ontario Golf Trip: Friendship, Fairways, and a Little Euchre
From June 9 to 13, I packed my golf clubs and set off for a girls’ golf trip to London, Ontario. Spoiler alert: it was the perfect mix of good golf, good food, and even better company. This is a group of my snowbird girlfriends that I met in Florida on the golf course!
(l-r: me, Tisha, Anne and Susie)
My friend Anne lives in London, so this year’s destination came together easily. Two other girlfriends and I flew into Detroit from St Louis (me!), Wisconsin and Florida. We met up at the airport, rented a minivan (the ultimate girls' golf trip ride, right?), and hit the road for a two-hour drive across the Canadian border. The border crossing was simple. The only real challenge was me trying to do quick math to figure out how fast I could drive in kilometers per hour. Let's just say I kept a close eye on the speedometer. 😅
We stayed at Anne’s house, which was gorgeous and cozy. She had breakfast waiting for us every morning. One of my favorite meals was soft-boiled eggs over sourdough toast with Greek yogurt and fresh berries. We felt so well taken care of and completely at home.
Dinner at Anne’s house:
Turkey burgers, sweet potatoes and salad. She knows the way to my heart!
We played three rounds at Sunningdale Country Club, two on the regular course and one on the West course. I didn’t embarrass myself and even shot all three rounds under 100, which felt like a personal victory. One day we walked all 18 holes, and I was struck by how many people walk the course there. About 80 percent of their members. It felt good to move my body, breathe in the fresh air, and get in a little cardio between swings.
Push carts at the golf course
The last time I walked a golf course was following and watching my kids play in high school! :)
We packed our own lunches for the course, lucked out with the weather (only rained on two holes), and spent our evenings rotating between local restaurants and cozy dinners at home. I had Lake Erie pickering at Los Olivos one night and black cod at West Social another. Both were absolutely delicious. The other two nights, we stayed in with cocktails, laughter, and game nights. The girls taught me how to play Euchre, and after two competitive rounds and a spontaneous dance party, we all agreed: this needs to become a yearly tradition.
What I Packed for a 5-Day Girls’ Golf Trip
I kept things simple with just a carry-on suitcase and my golf travel bag. Here’s what made the cut:
In My Carry-On:
3 golf outfits (3 tops, two skorts, one pair of pants)
Lightweight jacket (Canada mornings)
2 casual dinner outfits
Comfy lounge set for game nights
Pajamas, socks, and underwear
Travel-size toiletries and makeup
Golf shoes (I wore sneakers on the plane)
Sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat
A small golf tote to take on the course
One pair of dressier shoes to wear out to dinner
In My Golf Travel Bag:
Clubs and shoes
A dozen golf balls, tees, and two gloves
Water bottle and supplements
Golf Umbrella (I need a rainsuit!)
Packing light makes every trip so much smoother.
Every time I wear this golf set, I get compliments! Fits true to size. This print is almost sold out, but I also have it in navy and tan.
We’re already talking about next year’s destination. Kiawah Island, South Carolina, here we come.
